Citroen Berlingo Vans

Citroen Berlingo Van

The Citroen Berlingo has been on the UK market since 1996 with over 1.5 million vans built during this time. Now in its third generation, it has received a range of impressive upgrades while maintaining its predecessors' successes and capabilities.

Indeed, it was named the International Van of the Year 2019 by a panel of 25 journalists and independent magazine editors who specialise in Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs). The Berlingo was recognised for its developments in technology and comfort without compromising functionality.

First and foremost, a van needs to offer a practical and flexible load area. The Berlingo is available in two lengths: M and XL which measure 4.4m and 4.75m long, respectively.

As standard, the M version offers a load volume of 3.3m³, whereas the XL version is slightly bigger at 3.9m³. Both of these capacities automatically increase by 0.5m³ (to 3.8m³ and 4.4m³) when the Extenso® cab is added which is standard on all models except the entry level X trim level.

With the Extenso® cab in place, the Berlingo has a load through bulkhead facility which allows you to carry items up to 3.09m (M) and 3.44m (XL) in length.

The load width between the wheel arches of 1.2m has been carried over from the second generation model so that up to two Euro pallets will fit into the cargo area. Loading is made easier with a nearside sliding load door as standard; twin side doors are standard on all XL models. The side doors open to 675mm wide, with a height of 1,072mm.

Every Berlingo model comes with 60:40 split rear doors that open up to 180° to accommodate payloads between 650kg and 1,000kg.

CITROEN BERLINGO INTERIOR

The Mk3 Berlingo has been produced alongside the Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo vans. What sets this van apart from its closely-related competitors is the class-leading technology and interior design.

There are 20 Driver Assistance systems in the Berlingo, with many of them available as standard in certain specification levels such as Surround Rear Vision, Overload Indicator and Grip Control with Hill Descent Assist.

The dashboard layout is clear and easy to get on with. The multi-function steering wheel on Enterprise models and above helps to operate various functions. As well as increasing load volume and length, the Extenso® cab replaces the single passenger seat with twin passenger seats so you can transport an extra person.

With the central seat folded back, a pivoting writing table is revealed transforming the cabin into a mobile office space. Keep all of your devices charged and connected by using the USB ports and 12V sockets.

Throughout the cabin, there's 113-litres of storage space including an overhead storage unit, deep door pockets, a box under the driver's seat, a top box (large enough to store a 15" laptop) and cupholders.

CITROEN BERLINGO TRIM LEVELS & SPECIFICATIONS

The Berlingo van is available in four trim levels - X, Worker, Enterprise and Driver. The Worker and Driver variants have been specially designed to offer solutions adapted to specific activities.

The entry level model still comes well equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Hill Start Assist, ABS and the Citroen Connect Box with Emergency & Assistance system to keep you safe on the road.

Connect your phone to the van using the Bluetooth system to safely handle calls hands free and stream music wirelessly, or listen to the built-in DAB Radio.

The load area benefits from six tie-down hooks and a full bulkhead. Finding the perfect driving position is easier thanks to the rake and reach adjustable driver's seat.

CITROEN BERLINGO WORKER

The Worker version is aimed at professionals transporting equipment and people around different types of difficult terrains such as building sites.

As such, it has increased ground clearance of 30mm, 16" steel wheels with mud and snow tyres and Grip Control with Hill Descent Control.

It's the only variant that is equipped with the Overload Indicator as standard as well as a 220v socket which can be used to charge a laptop on the move. There's also LED lighting in the load area and four mid-height load securing rings.

CITROEN BERLINGO ENTERPRISE

The Enterprise model comes with a range of technological upgrades including an 8" colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity.

It's also equipped with rear parking sensors so you know how close the van is to other objects while reversing and cruise control which helps to reduce driver fatigue on long motorway journeys.

The load area benefits from a protective hard plastic floor and an alarm. The driver's seat is height and lumbar adjustable and the cabin has air conditioning as standard.

CITROEN BERLINGO DRIVER

The Driver version is aimed at professionals who have to make long trips or numerous deliveries in urban areas with specific improvements made to the cabin and ride quality.

The 8" touchscreen infotainment system is upgraded to include Citroen Connect Navigation with a multi-function steering wheel and voice recognition.

It is the only version to receive the Surround Rear Vision system which provides passenger side and rear cameras via a 5" touchscreen alongside front and rear parking sensors.

The cabin also benefits from Citroen Advance Comfort® providing additional acoustic insulation for a quiter driving experience and a comfort drivers seat.

SUMMARY

The updated Berlingo design brings it closer in line with the Citroen commercial vehicle range. The high-set front end and forward-set windscreen makes it truly look like the smaller sibling to the Dispatch medium-sized van.

Drivers can expect a fuel-efficient and comfortable drive from an adjustable driver's seat that provides a raised driving position and car-like features as standard.
